Purpose: Tasked with the unique challenge of interactively presenting a large amount of information from The Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission, Janmedia was selected to develop an advanced, animated cross-platform CD Interactive presentation to be distributed to over 20,000 schools across the United States.
Process: Given the project specifications and rigid time requirements, Janmedia’s project team chose Macromedia technology as a foundation for building a stand-alone user application. This Macromedia technology would then be integrated with information from PDF documents for effective presentation to the target end user.
Not only were the appropriate animation and graphical effects necessary to create a successful interactive environment, but the content delivery methodology had run consistent with best practices in interactive education. The balance between design and usability would be a key component in creating a user-friendly and intuitive browsing experience that could generate the maximum impact in content rentention.
After the appropriate analysis was applied by our development staff, it was decided to architect an application that loads through a hybrid process; streaming two separate data sessions onto one CD. This solution allows a single CD application to auto-load and run effectively on various operating systems that utilize fundamentally different file execution protocols. The outcome was a singular, dynamic, Flash-based presentation that is used in school systems running platforms including Windows, Macintosh and Linux operating systems.
Payoff: The Janmedia composed presentation was distributed to over 20,000 users, all of whom were able to effectively enjoy the information presented on the interactive CDs. According to subsequent market research, the CD Interactive presentation resulted in a 60% increase in content retention when compared to traditional print media learning. The project was also highly successful due to the industry unique accessibility Janmedia was able to provide. Interactive CD Presentations usually require selection of and optimization for specific operating system, however Janmedia’s deliverable was able to load on all major operating environments.
